Wall Nut

1) Never underestimate Wall Nut because of his size. His brother Tall Nut may have a tougher defense and extra size, but this younger dude has a cheaper cost that made him a better choice when necessity knocks. The guy indeed is the very perfect definition of the phrase, ‘small but unstable--uhhm, terrible’.

Plant Vs Zombies Wall Nut

2) Did you know that Wall Nut and Chomper are best of friends? Uhhm, okay. Maybe it’s a bit exaggerating since they don’t know each other personally, but still their tag team made them one of the best defensive players of the game. Try to place Chomper just right behind Wall Nut and see for yourself.

3) According to Crazy Dave’s Botanical Encyclopedia, Wall Nut has a thick and tough defense but what makes it harder to cut down is when an equally tough guy is protecting him. To make an almost insurmountable plant like Wall Nut even more formidable, try to place Pumpkin around him.

Come to think of this, if those zombies considered Wall Nut a very tough guy to pull down, then what’s the use of a nutcracker hanging on their kitchen anyway?

Tangle Kelp

1) If you are planning to preserve huge amount of suns early in the game but has difficulty on defending your pool, let Tangle Kelp do the job for you. Just like the Potato Mines on the ground, Tangle Kelp is cheap costing only 25 suns.

Talking about bad hair day, when will this guy learn to fix his hair?

Plant Vs Zombies Tangle Kelp

2) It is wise to plant Tangle Kelp every time it is available for planting. It has a slow recharge time and may affect your water defense if a crowd of zombies swarm on your pool. Although I hate to advise you to let the greenish moss (Tangle Kelp) to grow on your own swimming pool. But hey, you’ve got no choice, right?!

3) Probably the toughest guy to kill on water is the Buckethead Zombie. Well, if it wasn’t for his pail on his head that guy won’t last that long. The good news is, however, when the situation is getting dangerous, let Tangle Kelp take care of him permanently. The bad news, on the other hand, Tangle Kelp will not show up again ever. Duh!

Tall Nut

1) Those Pole Vaulting Zombies and Pogo Zombies always love to jump around, that is why they hate Tall Nut so much for spoiling their fun.

Plant Vs Zombies Tall Nut

2) When many zombies heard the news how Tall Nut block their way in the ground, some of them (Dolphin Rider Zombies), switch to pool party. To their dismay, they never anticipated the fact that Tall Nut can float upon Lily Pad’s back even though he can’t swim. Poor zombies they’re really ran out of options.

3) Tall Nut has the toughest defense around, even tougher than his brother Wall Nut. What made Tall Nut surpass his natural defensive attribute is when Pumpkin cover his body.

Oh, I just can’t help but wonder why would Pumpkin let his prestigious name be dirtied by making himself an underwear to plants.

Sunflower

1) During the day, nobody is more important than Sunflower. That is why everybody would lay their lives just to protect her. Why not? She’s the reason behind their existence. If some of them will die they can still be resurrected, but if Sunflower will die and there’s not enough suns left in the vault, all are in grave danger. Although Sunflower was treated as a VIP, but still only few knew that she is also the plants’ official clown and mascot. Like, Duh! Whatever….!

Plant Vs Zombies Sunflower

2) Those Digger Zombies and Catapult Zombies always love to do the opposite. Instead of aiming to the front line they usually make a backstab assault. The harmless Sunflower who preferred to be positioned at the back was in constant threat with these guys. Good thing Pumpkin volunteered to be her “knight in the wooden armor” despite the fact that many are suspecting his real motive for being her underwear protection.

Well, what else can I say? He’s one lucky pervert.

3) Sunflower is more effective during the day than night time. Although the time duration of producing suns is still constant, yet there are no free suns produced during the night. So instead of choosing Sunflower to do the job, why not giving her a rest and let Sun-shroom take her place while the moonlight shines. Sun-shroom cost lower and can give you a decent amount of suns faster than Sunflower.

From the very first time I played the game and until now, it’s still a mystery to me why there are plants that can produce suns. Anyway, talking about climate change, who needs a big fiery ball in the sky when plants can produce the lights?

Snow Pea

1) Snow Pea can slows down a zombie that he hits but it doesn’t work the same on the multitude. Who needs an artificially generated ice cube anyway, when you can get one fresh from your garden?

Plant Vs Zombies Snow Pea

2) Although a Snow Pea cost higher than a Peashooter but their damage is very much the same. However, his frost effect slows down an enemy that enables him to make more shots before a zombie can draw closer. A zombie once interviewed shared his horrific experience against Snow Pea quoting, “I hate Snow Pea! He always gave me a shiver at the back of my spine! Thinking about him just give me the creeps!”.

3) Torchwood really intensifies the damage of peas when it pass through his flames, all except for one, Snow Pea. His frozen peas when passed through Torchwood‘s flames will eventually transmuted into normal ones and lost their unique frost effects. Therefore, it is not advisable to place Snow Pea before Torchwood to preserve his unique natural attribute.

Its not surprising, anyway, why ‘Mr. Rough, Raging and Rugged Torchwood’ does not get along well with ‘Mr. Calm, Cool and Collected Snow Pea’, no matter how many times they tried to.

Pumpkin

1) Many plants greatly appreciate of what kind of self-sacrifice Pumpkin had done to them. Sunflower and Sun-shroom that were usually planted near the house is in constant danger of Digger Zombies, its just a good thing that Pumpkin adds an extra toughness on these harmless plants’ defense before they end up a meal from these miners.

How could Pumpkin still remained so calm and collected while those zombies scratch his sides? Tough kid indeed to unceasingly crack that smile in front of his enemies!

Plant Vs Zombies Pumpkin

2) When it comes to defensive play, Pumpkin is one of the best guy around. It can tolerate grave pains and still cracked that smile on his face. Although, many plants considered it a perfect skill for such legendary defensive player, yet there are two things that Pumpkin still wish to have. One, is to have a bigger body size in order to cover a Cob Cannon. The other one, is to have a complete set of teeth to attract more girls.

3) Although a plant covered by Pumpkin has a doubled defense, yet it can’t stop a Bungee Zombie from stealing it. If those guys were around try to plant Umbrella Leaf nearby to deflect their attacks.

Now I finally realized how important a team work is. I should have listened to my coach when he said, “two is better than one”. But what’s the use of two when its only for a single player match? On second thought, maybe I should have not listened after all.

Puff-shroom

1) It may take a while before Sun-shroom can produce enough suns for you. That is why Puff-shroom is necessary for early defense during night time without spending any suns. What’s better than free, anyway? Totally nothing!

Plant Vs Zombies Puff-shroom

2) Puff-shroom has a decent damage and quick recharge matched only by more expensive plants like the Peashooter, Cabbage-pult and Kernel-pult. The only downside, however, is its range. Puff-shroom is a medium range plant that can hit only as far as four columns away from its position.

Now this guy spew his stinking saliva to protect the lawn. I never thought its true, but now I am totally convinced that “eating a dozen onions a day keeps the zombies away”.

3) The limited range of Puff-shroom make it prone to become an early appetizer for intruders with tougher defense like the Conehead Zombies and the Buckethead Zombies. Planting three to five Puff-shroom in a single lane early in the game helps a lot in fending off those hungry fiends. You can also use cheap plants like the Potato Mines and Squash if the situation is getting worst.

Who would have thought that these carnivorous zombies love to eat plants too? I’ve never seen a vegetarian zombie in a movie before but if you’ve seen one please don’t hesitate to inform me. I greatly appreciate it--- seriously.

Potato Mine

1) Probably one of the best strategic plant to use early in the game is Potato Mine. If your planning to invest more suns in your vault try not to buy expensive plants for an early defense. With its cheaper cost of 25 suns, Potato Mine is perfect and good enough to blow off those zombies mustache. When somebody touch the guy he get so annoyed and irritated that he wanted disappear. Well, I guess it’s better that way before the zombies strip his skin and shred his body into French fries.

Plant Vs Zombies Potato Mine

2) Who can blame Potato Mine? I know the guy is slow on preparing for his detonating device, but won’t you give him a little consideration? He’s been stuck on the ground and you know it’s not easy to move in that situation. Why not planting him ahead of time? Probably, 4 to 5 columns away from its location to trigger his explosion at the right time.

3) In one interview, Potato Mine confessed his open hatred about the Pogo Zombies. He said, “One thing I hate about Pogo Zombies is that they are playing hard to get, although they are not that cute. They love to jump off over my head and never dare to touch me. I’m just lucky that my friend Magnet-Shroom pulls off their toys that they may not pass through me again without getting turned to ashes”.

Peashooter

1) Peashooter is one proud guy. He may not be one of the toughest plant around but because of his low cost requirements the guy indeed is reliable on the front line early in the game. Peashooter once said, “In the spark of battle people love to put me first on the line of defense. But I just don’t like the idea of removing me in the lawn when they have enough suns to buy those self-proclaimed elites like Repeater or Threepeater”. Poor guy, he must be hurt to the core.

Plant Vs Zombies Peashooter

2) Peashooter once had a bad history with Snow Pea. “That Snow Pea is one cold-hearted guy. Who does he think he is?”, he grumbled. However, things suddenly changed when he found out how they compliment on each other in the battle field, especially early in the game. Eventually, the two became good friends and war buddies, regardless the fact that he always catch a cold whenever Snow Pea is near him.

3) During his early days defending the lawn, Peashooter do all things on his own. It must have given the guy a boost of self-esteem but he suddenly lost it when tougher enemies like the Buckethead Zombies and Football Zombies started to roam around. Thanks to Torchwood, Crazy Dave’s newest recruit, for he has given him a hope to reclaim the things he once lost. It’s not surprising after all, for he made the peas that pass through his flames twice stronger than they were before. The downside however, Peashooter became too dependent on him that he want to fight alongside with Torchwood all the time.

Grave Buster

1) If you think a Grave Buster has an adamant teeth for grinding down the toughest stones, well think again because zombies can torn to pieces your Grave Busters. That is why you need to make sure that there are no zombies approaching on the same lane to prevent your Grave Buster from being wasted.

I wonder what brand of toothpaste those zombies used to have such strong teeth or do they use mouthwash too?

Plant Vs Zombies Grave Buster

2) At first you may think that Grave Buster is not much of a help but it is actually essential during night time. Do not forget to include it always in your line up when defending a night assault full of graves. Removing the tombstones adds an extra space in your lawn and that means more plants can be planted to boost your defense.

I’ve seen plants that eat flies and other insects, but it sure strange to see plants that eat stones.

3) There are night assaults that does not necessarily need a Grave Buster in your plant selection. Pool party is one best example wherein your lawn is free from any grave.

Those zombies really love a pool party. For them, nothing beats a nightlong revelry dancing to the music of Rob Zombie while drinking Bloody Mary.

Gold Magnet

1) Gold Magnet is a rich kid with a rags-to-riches story. It makes him cry when he reminisced the time back in the slum, when his friends once to call him ‘Mr. Scavenger’. Although, Magnet-shroom is a mushroom type plant and needs to be awaken during the day by using Coffee Bean, yet it is different in the case of Gold Magnet. Even if Magnet-shroom is asleep you can directly upgrade it into Gold Magnet without using Coffee Bean to awaken it.

When the day is high, who needs caffeine anyway?

Plant Vs Zombies Gold Magnet

2) If your strategy is to remove metals used by enemies, then never upgrade the Magnet-shroom into Gold Magnet for it has no power over metals but for coins and diamonds only. Fair enough, since you don’t want to mixed scrap metals with your treasures.

3) Place the Gold Magnet anywhere in your lawn and it can do its work. It can collect coins and diamonds even in the farthest corner of your backyard. Now that’s what I call a ‘universal job’.

4) One is good and two is better, but one Gold Magnet is sufficient enough to do its work. After all, enough is enough.

5) Survival games, especially the Endless Survival Mode, gives you more coins and diamonds as the game progresses. Planting Gold Magnet is necessary in order for you to focus more on defending your lawn than collecting coins for your piggy bank.

Now if those zombies have millions on their pockets, then why won’t they buy meat in shops rather than stealing the brains of the citizens? Duh! Those guys never learn anything other than being parasites in the society.

Gatling Pea

1) Gatling Pea is one of the most expensive plant available in your lawn, but its worth all the suns you spent considering the amount of damage he inflicts. Four times normal damage may equal to a very heavy damage that Winter Melon can deliver, less the area splash damage and frost effect.

How did this guy manage to keep those four rotating nozzles in his mouth, anyway? I just don’t get it.

Plant Vs Zombies Gatling Pea

2) Among Gatling Pea’s minion Torchwood is his favorite buddy. Well it’s not surprising since Torchwood amplifies the damage that Gatling Pea can deliver. Making his four peas twice stronger than the usual. Torchwood, on the other hand, thought that he was badly used by his officer. How pathetic.

3) If you think a column of Gatling Peas and Torchwoods cooperative attack is insane. Then, why not try to make two or more columns of Gatling Peas and enjoy the fun. However, this requires a huge amount of suns and may be very useful on consecutive levels in Survival Mode.

I never thought that this game could be so violent. ESRB should have stricter rating on kiddies stuff like this game.

4) A Peashooter is good for early round but if you want to make three or more in a single lane, it’s better to buy Gatling Peas instead. You can still retain the four peas normal damage, plus an additional speed and a wider space reserved for other plants.

For the extra space left, a signpost at the farthest front of your lawn may not be a bad idea. How about posting it with phrases like, ‘Keep off the grass’ or ‘No trespassing’? Who knows, may be the zombies will have no choice but to obey the federal law after all and finally get rid of them permanently. Nah! Just forget what I said.

Garlic

1) Unlike all other plants, Garlic is fond of zombies. He think they’re so cute that he would love to hug them if they’ll love it too. Unfortunately, to his dismay, they always ran away when they’ve got closer to him. Many plants, on the other hand, find his unique redirection skill an asset in the battlefield. For that matter, they agreed to always place Garlic on the frontline just to confound their nearby enemies and enables them to buy more time to inflict damage without being attack in return.

Plant Vs Zombies Garlic

2) If the Nut brothers and Chomper tandem was one of the most highly recognized defensive tactics on the frontline, Garlic has some cool tricks out of his skin too. The guy loves to be always teamed-up with either Spikeweed and Spikerock. Well… Why not? They really compliment each other in terms of annihilating all those creeps. While Garlic redirects zombies on another lane, Spikeweeds and Spikerocks at the same time were all busy impaling them from below.

Good thing those spikes can stand Garlic’s unique scent, although sometimes they fainted over his pungent smell. Poor guys, it must have been tough for them to be partnered to someone who rarely take a bath in a year.

3) When Garlic decided to gave up his life of hermitage from the rocky mountains, he quickly enlisted himself in Botanical Military Academy. Thus, begin his life-long career on crime fighting. With his exceptional unique skills, he quickly rose to the rank but never made a good impression to other plants. He taught maybe they’re just intimidated with his good looks or others were just jealous of his exceptional military achievements, but he didn’t realized that it was really his stinking breath that made him infamous among his allies. The zombies, on the other hand, sees him as a very horrific foe to deal with but at least not to all of them. Since there are zombies who were never been affected with Garlic’s scent like the Pogo Zombies, Pole Vaulting Zombies, Bungee Zombies and some more.

Fume-shroom

1) The zombies has a new recruit, they call him the “Brain Maniac”. As his name suggests, he loves to eat brains but aside from that he is no scatterbrain as his contemporaries are. He is a natural born tactician and he’s the one behind the tactical assault called “Operation Screen Door”. Good thing Crazy Dave is around to lend you a hand, bringing with him are his not so crazy ideas and Fume-shroom.

“Nobody can pass through my little crazy friend Fume-shroom here, not even those crazy Screen Door thieves in our crazy neighborhood can. His crazy pungent scent will penetrate their crazy defensive barrier up to their crazy core”, bragged Crazy Dave.

Plant Vs Zombies Fume-shroom

2) Just like his little cuddly friend Puff-shroom, Fume-shroom has difficulty in excreting his poisonous scent as far as the other plants can do. That is why he always wanted to be at least positioned 3 columns behind the plant on the front line of defense.

Sometimes, Fume-shroom can’t help but blame himself, why he was absent when the long-range shooting training was taught in Botanical Military Academy.
How pathetic.

3) Although Fume-shroom falls to medium range category when in comes to how far his attack goes, yet he had something out of him that only few can match. His damage is relatively normal but unlike others that can only damage one enemy at a time, Fume-shroom can inflict a bunch of zombies in a lane. Not only that, he also has a low requirement cost for only 75 suns. That is 25 suns lower than his equally powerful peers like Peashooter, Cabbage-pult and Kernel-pult. Nevertheless, he cannot deny the fact that he’s a bit smelly than the other three when it comes to scents. That is why he never been that famous on girls’ department despite his cute face.

Chomper

1) Aside from eating, Chomper has no unique attributes known. That is why many of his peers underestimated him, thinking that his just a voracious simpleton. But little did they know that the guy is so flexible that he can eat zombies behind his back (Digger Zombies) or those who loves bungee jumping (Bungee Zombies). Okay, you may think it’s not another unique talent at all, but it’s still something.

Plant Vs Zombies Chomper

2) Because of its melee range attack, many plants thought that Chomper should take the frontline during a battle. Chomper on the other hand, never like the idea since he always ends up a snack for those zombies. He protested and threatened to leave his position when they would still insist to do the same thing over and over again. Good thing the lovable Nut brothers volunteered to be placed in the frontline just before Chomper. The result? It was perfect! While Wall Nut or Tall Nut try to protect Chomper, the guy will eat everyone who will scratch the Nut brothers’ heavy defense. Now that’s a perfect picture of coexisting amidst of chaos.

3) It’s so strange that an elusive character like Flower Pot has eyes but a genuine plant like Chomper don’t have. Maybe that’s the reason why Chomper can’t swallow those evasive jumping zombies (Pole Vaulting Zombie and Pogo Zombie) above him. Poor guy.

Cherry Bomb

1) Those Gargantuar sure does have a formidable defense. But bombs can blow them up from two or three explosions, except for Potato Mine. If these humungous zombies roam in two or three separate lanes in your lawn, try to use Cherry Bombs in between them in order to inflict damage to all nearby enemies with just one explosion.

I know cherries are sweet but I never thought they could be so devastating when pissed-off. Gotta be careful when eating them or you’ll lose your teeth.

Plant Vs Zombies Cherry Bomb

2) If there is one thing that Cherry Bomb hates, that is when others try to compare him to Doom-shroom. Although, Doom-shroom has a vast range of damage and cost less but it does leave a crater after an explosion. Cherry Bomb on the other hand, has a medium range explosion and a bit expensive but never makes a crater. Giving you a room for other plants to defend your lawn.

Well, it’s still a mystery for the rest of us how those craters got covered up over the course of time.

3) Cherry Bomb is a reliable plant in the battlefield, all right--- but you really don’t need to plant the guy when you’re just dealing a single enemy in a lane. Aside from the fact that it has a very high sun requirements, it also has a very slow recharge. Better reserve Cherry Bomb when the situation is getting more dangerous, especially when a mob of heavy geared zombies are starting to raid your lawn.

Who would have thought a bucket or a traffic cone could be a very useful headgear? Now that’s what I call genuine innovation.

Fast Sun Production During Early Game

Getting more suns early in the game is undoubtedly one of the best way to win the game easily. That is why it is advisable for everyone to at least plant two columns of Sunflowers or Sun-shrooms to produce more suns, especially those plants that need to be upgraded.

Unlike, night time there are no free stuff like Puff-shroom that can be used as an early defense during the day, so it is necessary for you to plant either of the not so tough but very cheap offensive plants like the Peashooter, Cabbage-pult and Kernel-pult. Usually, during the day, you can plant at least three Sunflowers before the very first enemy strikes and before he gets too close to your house you have to eliminate him.

When I first played the game I usually plant a Peashooter on every lane but I found out that you cannot plant Sunflowers fast enough by spending much on your defense. What I did was I planted a Potato Mine on a lane where a zombie is heading. This provide you more suns to plant Sunflowers while holding off the zombies from passing through. Aside from that, you are spending less with just 25 points (equivalent to 1 sun produced by Sunflower) for every Potato Mine.

Plant Vs Zombies

1) The first enemy to strike.
2) Plant a Potato Mine on the lane as fast as possible to trigger its detonating device before the enemy gets any closer.
3) The sooner you plant the Potato Mine the better. The icon above your screen shows the duration of time when you can start planting another one.

Plant Vs Zombies

1) Good thing Potato Mine does not take so long to recharge.
2) The second zombie is approaching.
3) If you have an upgraded Twin Sunflower, you can plant it as early as the second zombie shows himself.
4) From the time you planted your first Potato Mine, the number of Sunflowers that you can plant may already have doubled.

Plant Vs Zombies

1) As much as 625 suns or even more may have been stored in your vault when the third and fourth zombies appeared.
2) As early as the third zombie appeared you may already upgraded 2 Sunflowers into Twin Sunflowers.
3) These Conehead Zombies are tough indeed. Their traffic cone helmet made them twice tougher than the normal ones. Good thing a Potato Mine can turn these guys into ashes in one blast. Planting a Peashooter at this short distance may only ends up a meal for these gluttons.

Within a very short time, probably when the third and fourth zombie appeared, you may already have two columns of Sunflowers in your lawn and huge amount of suns stored. After you have a stable number of Sunflowers to support the sun requirements for planting, then you can proceed on designing your lawn as you want it to be.
